Some Vixen questions

Postby WarHorse47 on Sun Nov 30, 2008 2:57 am

I purchased the Sea Vixen earlier today, and I must say I am not disapointed. Great job. I'm really enjoying it.

There were a few things I noted, and thought I'd post all my questions together. ;)

First question. Is there a manual available? I found the readme file and pics, but they don't seem to cover all the aircraft operations and switches.

Second question. I noticed that there is a patch available that updates the gauges. But there are no instructions on the patch, such as where to place the panel folder. Any guidance on this? :?

Third question. How does one get the AOA (glideslope lights) to function? I've made several flights, and the AOA seems inoperative. Is there a switch somewhere that needs to be activated? Or is this fixed with the patch?

And last but not least is an observation. I noticed that the Nav 1 and 2 are reversed. Typically I set Nav 1 for an ILS, but discovered with the Vixen that I need to set the Nav 2 to the proper frequency. :geek:

Thanks.

I don't think so but some questions have been answered on this forum, like weapons etc

The forum http://www.sky-sim.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=374 says unzip it into your Gauges folder.

Mine function with NAV1 when it is set to an ILS frequency

I find NAV1 drives the needles on the 'central' compass and NAV2 drives the needles on the OBI (Top left on the FAW2) . If you have the radio Pop-up window open the VC radio does the same as NAV1. In the FAW1 there is no OBI in the top left it is a RadAlt instead. The Glideslope light respond to NAV1 (ILS) for me in both FAW1 and FAW2.

Thanks for the response, Saxon.

I figured out most, but wanted to check anyway to make sure I didn't overlook anything.

As for the panel folder within the patch, I'm still not sure.

There are TWO panel folders are within each aircraft folder. The panel folder within the patch contains two *.bmp files and one panel.cfg. Putting it in the gauges folder would do nothing as the panel folders within each aircraft would be primary. For the moment I'm not installing it until I know more. BTW - the file dates are earlier than the file dates from my install, which makes me suspect that the install is more current than the patch.

But that is why I'm asking questions in the forum so I get a better understanding of what needs to be done. If this is some kind of new aircraft install for FS9, then I'm here to learn.

I've just downloaded the Gauge update and you're right those other files don't make sense to be loaded in the Gauges folder.

Saxon

MODERATOR COMMENT:
Thanks for pointing this out guys.
That Download should only include the CVIX.gau file.
The other files have now been removed.
Download the file and unzip it into the Gauges folder of both FS9 and FSX.
If you've already downloaded simply delete the files other than CVIX.gau

Thanks for the ideas for the ADD. I will try them. I am using the 893 (Hermes) cab and there doesn't appear to be a TACAN, also the radio is not an ARC 52. I am finding it great fun and once I can finnd Ark Royal and have sorted out the ADD I am looking forward to trying deck landing.

Take a look at this link if you are interested in the manual, pilots notes etc. for the Vixen
